Build a Services Blueprint
To prepare for this assignment, read Chapter 8. Also read the blog article “What is a Service Blueprint?” by Marie-Reine Pugh.
Your core task is to build a service blueprint for a service business you are very familiar with. Choose a different company than the one you interviewed for the Week 2 assignment. Refer to the following service blueprint examples:
- Service Blueprint for a Casino (B2C) – PowerPoint File (101.7 KB)
- Service Blueprint for a Packaged Oil Delivery Service (B2B) – PowerPoint File (53.7 KB)
Prepare a detailed blueprint of the service including all relevant elements both front stage and backstage. It is possible to create the blueprint in PowerPoint using the Insert/Shapes options in the top menu, but for a much more streamlined tool, use the free service blueprint template available by using www.lucidchart.com. It requires only an email, name, and password to use all of the diagramming tools you need for this assignment. If you choose to use LucidChart, after signing up, use their search templates option to search for “service blueprint.” Once you’ve created your blueprint in LucidChart, you can export it as a pdf or copy a link to it that can be used in your paper.
In addition to the blueprint, prepare a 2-page written critical evaluation of the process in its present form, paying particular attention to service quality and productivity. Be sure to identify areas of strength and weakness in the service process (including potential fail points). Do not simply repeat the information show in the blueprint. Instead, evaluate, critique, make recommendations, and incorporate concepts discussed in Chapter 8.
Your paper (not counting the blueprint) should be approximately 2 pages, double-spaced (APA style). Include your blueprint in the Appendix of your paper or submit it as a separate file (pdf or ppt) or as a live web link embedded in your paper.
