Initial Response Due 10/7 (at least 250 words long)

Two Responses to Classmates Due 10/10 (at least 100 words long each)

Begin this discussion by carefully reading the following:

Then begin your post by briefly summarizing each person’s narrative. Next, try to describe at least three elements of narrative and memoir that you notice in these pieces. Are these elements done well in these examples? Why or why not? Compare these two examples. Which has the most successful memoir? Why?

Finally, describe how you might use one or both of these pieces to help you write your own memoir. What kinds of strategies or approaches to writing did these authors take that you plan to model in your own memoir? Why?

Responses to Classmates

To be eligible for full points for this discussion, you must also respond to at least two classmates (at least 100 words each). The content of these responses are up to you, but I suggest discussing the elements each of you noticed in these pieces. You could also discuss how your approach to memoir might be similar or different from your classmates’ approaches.

You can also use the RISE model (Links to an external site.) when you respond:

  • Reflect: What do you agree/disagree with in your peer’s post?
  • Inquire: Ask an insightful question about your peer’s post.
  • Suggest: Make a kind suggestion to your peer or make an insightful comment that will help them better understand rhetoric.
  • Elevate: Offer an additional resource your peer might find helpful, or make connections between your post and your peer’s post. Elevate the conversation by providing information that will be helpful in the future.
