Green Fluorescent Protein PROJECT

Abstract: A few short paragraphsthat summarizethe entire project. This is the most difficult part to write, and should be written after the entire report has been completed. It is found at the beginning of the report. The abstract should be no more than 250 words and should briefly describe what was done and the essential results/conclusions of the project. An example of an abstract can be found on the GFP site on Blackboard. Background: Briefly give any background information that is required to understand the project. You should summarize important features of the project including information about the various techniques used to accomplish the project. Procedure: In this section you will briefly describe the procedures that you used to accomplish the project. This should not be at the level of detail that is in your lab notebook, but should summarize each of the processesthat were used. In most cases, each of the different stages of the project can be summarized in a paragraph or two. Results: You should summarize the results for each of the stages in the project. This is best done in presentation tables and graphs; this is not the place to just list raw data. If there were calculations that were done, examples of the calculationsshould be shown. You should include photos of gels and describe your analysis, and standard curves for proteins assays should be included. Quantities of GFPobtained at each stage of the process should be included here.Discussion: The results of each of the sections should be discussed thoroughly, starting with the results of the transformation, followed by the purification process and the analysis of the protein produced. Any issues that arose during the process should be discussed at this point, and their impact on the overall process should be described. Conclusions: This should describe the key things that were achieved throughout the project; in the end, what were the key things that were found during the project: how successful was the transformation? How much protein was recovered during the purification? What was the purity of the protein? How do you know?
