Grand Canyon University X Intercepts and Quadratic Functions Worksheet

Solve the problems uploaded on the screenshot as well as the following:

This DQ continues our examination of quadratic functions, i.e functions of the form f(x) = ax2+bx+c where a,b,c are real coefficients. This one here asks us about x-intercepts which is actually the most useful aspect of quadratic modeling, at least from my point of view.

Imagine you were interested in when exactly your profit in a business were to hit $0? Or when precisely the ball you just threw will hit the ground? These are x-intercepts because it is the value x at which f(x) = 0. (profit = 0, height = 0, etc)

some discussion points:

1. Suppose you had to write the question that everyone is to solve this week, what would you write

2. This is an unrelated question but I am still interested: What are your thoughts about Excel in a math class? Do you think we should just only teach Excel and not algebra, or no Excel at all? Is Excel even related to algebra??
