Allocate at least 3 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Using a variety of instructional strategies ensures that students have the opportunity to practice and apply math concepts in various contexts. Presenting the learning in different ways helps support students with varied learning styles.

For this assignment, observe your mentor teacher implementing one or more math lessons to the entire class. Pay close attention to the presentation of objectives, implementation of instructional methods, differentiation strategies, and the use of informal and formal assessments.

Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.

In 250-500 words, reflect on your observations.  Describe how the students interacted with the learning activities and assessments. Include:

  • Information on what math concepts/standards are currently being taught in your field experience classroom
  • Instructional strategies the teacher used and how effective they were.
  • How instructional resources, including manipulatives, were utilized in the lesson.
  • How the instruction was differentiated to address students’ diverse learning needs.
  • How you will apply what you observed to teaching and assessing math content in your future professional practice.
