Student 1) Merton has assumptions about nature of human sin that best aligns with biblical principles. Merton argues that individuals commit crimes when they experience strain as a result of their inability to meet society’s goals with the resources available to them. Merton thus assumes that humans do not have a natural tendency to engage in offending behavior, but that it is strain that causes them to do so. When we think of the biblical principles human beings was not created to sin ; which aligns with the natural tendency to not engage in offending behaviors. When I think of the Hirschi’s social theory is based on the world; which biblically we are guven the choice of right and wrong.
