Margaret:
“Ad hoc reporting and analysis differs from traditional, static reporting in which technical specialists, like data analysts, create and distribute reports. Through ad hoc reporting, employees are empowered to find answers to business questions at any given moment, without having to relay the task to other teams” (Morris, 2021). This allows for quicker reporting time than waiting for the analytics team to respond, and helps fill in gaps between static or scheduled reports. Organizations can take advantage of both reporting types, and use them in collaboration as the best fit for the particular situation. The minimal data set necessary should be used for privacy purposes, as well as for clarity for the intended recipient of the report. If the data is not in an extractable format from the original source, it must be preprocessed before it can be used for reporting purposes.

Ad hoc reports are reports created for one time used to answer a single/specific business question (Duncan, 2020). Instead of waiting for scheduled reports, ad hoc analysis enables decision makers to gain insights more rapidly and allow them to decide flexibly with as accurate information as possible on-the spot. Static report uses data important for a specific period; it offers a snapshot of trends, data, and information over a set of periods to provide insight and used as a decision-making guide (Sharma, 2020). Ad hoc reports are reports run by a user, produced once, answer a specific question, more visual, and shared with smaller audience; however, static reports are reports automated and produced regularly, developed by an analyst, they are reports on ongoing activity, more formatted with text and tables, and distributed to larger audience (Duncan, 2020). According to Durcevic 2020, some benefits of ad hoc reporting and analysis are reducing the IT workload, easy to use, ensures flexibility within the constantly changing business environment, saves time and costs, and completely customizable. We must extract the required data to create a report. Sometimes, the data might be in an extractable form, in this case we need to convert by applying an automated data extraction process to unstructured data (Beek, 2018). According to Beek (2018), the five key unstructured data extraction techniques are ingest, convert, classify, identify, and extract. Use of data extraction techniques within the extraction process enables automatically prepare all the unstructured data required for the analytics projects.
