Part A – very short answers – one or a few words

– answer 5 out a choice of 6 (5 x 2 marks each = 10 marks) – provide two answers for the

question, you cannot answer part of one question and part of another to count as two half

answers, you only answer 6 of the questions – in some cases there are a large number of answers

that might be acceptable and in other cases only 2 or 3. Make sure if it is a specific question or

incident, event, or case study that you give related answers, not general info. Examples of

questions could be – identify two greenhouse gases; two groups of people most vulnerable to this

type of disaster; two influenza disasters….

Part B – multiple choice and true/false – you answer all 45 questions – (45 x 1 mark = 45 marks)

no penalty for guessin – they draw on stats, definitions,

geographical distribution as well as a general understanding of processes and characteristics of

hazards. Make sure you answer all 45, there is no penalty for guessing.

Part C – fill in the blank – you answer 6 out of a choice of 8 and note if you answer more than 6 I

only mark the first 6 as is the case for all of the questions where you have choice (6 x 1 mark

each = 6 marks).

Part D – short answer – you do 3 out of 5 (3 x 3 marks = 9 marks), in most cases you’ll be asked

for three factors, characteristics, groups of people, etc. or you may be asked to compare between

two situations, case studies etc
