I need an explanation for this American Studies question to help me study.
After reading the excerpt from Betty Friedan’s “The Feminine Mystique,” answer the following three question:
- In what ways was the progress for women going in reverse in the fifties? Identify three.
- How did women “cope” with the problem? What did they do to “blot out the feeling” there was a problem? Identify four.
- Friedan addresses some revelations of what the women of the fifties were dealing with, or were unable to deal with, that can be surprising (to you). Cite a passage from “The Feminine Mystique” that you find shocking or offensive, and then, in a sentence or two, explain why you find it so. In choosing a passage, make sure you pull something from the piece that is not connected to the first two questions above and that is something you can effectively respond to (as in not so small as to be obvious and not so big you can’t respond to it all
