After reading “From Black Power to Hip Hope: Discussing Race, Policing, and the Fourth Amendment Through the ‘War on’ Paradigm” (no, you don’t have to read the footnotes), identify three problems that have made the “post-racialism” era difficult for members of the African-American community. A simple explanation is all that’s needed, as long as it’s clear just what the problem is.
Here’s an example with one problem:
As a result of “changes in the political economy,” which only reduced opportunities in already impoverished neighborhoods, “black and brown youths would come to be called gangsters, thugs, and hoodlums” (54); frustrated by the continued mistreatment that was supposed to end in the post Civil War era, the new generation spoke up, acted out, and, as usual, get labeled as a problem (when the real problem is the system, not them).
You don’t have to cite a passage, but if you can’t find a way to put the idea (or problem) into your own words, then go ahead and cite a brief passage, and then explain what the problem is.
