SEMESTER PROJECT: CASE STUDY

CASE STUDY COLLABORATIVE OR SOLO: In depth study of a child within the ages studied in CHLDV 135. The work is done as a group project, with 3 students per group; or solo, by one student. It is strongly recommended that this project be done collaboratively! As students discuss components to the project, course information is shared, and learning is enhanced! It is likely that the subject (child) of the case study is known by one of the group members or by the single writer. It is critical to get to know the subject well. Week 14 in the class includes a link to an outline containing suggestions for case study content. There is also a paper on the required case study format.

Opportunities for observation will enable the gathering of data on the characteristics of the child, based on the DEVELOPMENTAL DOMAINS: Physical Development and Health, Cognitive Development, Social and Emotional Development. Since this is also a research project, intended to enable students to understand child development more fully, the notes on the case study subject will be compared to research data on typical age characteristics and behavior. It is important that each writer maintains sources of research, and that quotations are cited according to proper form.

The California Desired Results Developmental Profiles (DRDPs) (Links to an external site.)serves as another source of supportive information! In the collaborative project, the grade that the project earns will be the same for each group member.
