Acknowledging that one size does not fit all applies to our contemporary workplace as it relates to the leadership style employed by organizational leaders. What complicates the need for an appropriate leadership style is the very dynamic environment that many organizations operate in. There are times when organizational leaders are faced with a crisis within their organization and may have to use a directive leadership style. After the crisis is resolved that same leadership style may prove to be disastrous to the morale and productivity of the same organization.
Upon completion of this assignment you should be able to:
- Discuss how one of the contingency leadership theories apply to leaders within real world organizations.
- Apply the appropriate leadership behavior to the context, followers and structure of the organization.
Instructions
- Select one organization (any organization) that was not successful due to a mismatch in the leader’s leadership style.
- Write a three page paper showing your understanding of one the contingency leadership models. You will also display your understanding of how the model takes in consideration the leader’s behavior, followers and culture of the organization.
Your paper will include the following:
- An introduction that engages the reader, presents the focus of the paper, and gives the reader an idea of flow of the document.
- A compelling demonstration of your understanding of one of the contingency leadership models. There must be a clear consideration for the leader’s behavior, followers and culture of the organization.
- Describe the culture and structure of the organization.
- Discuss the nature of the mismatch in the leader’s leadership behavior and the organization’s culture and/or structure.
- Clearly explain the proper leadership behavior that you recommend:
i. Tell the benefits to the organization of the proposed leadership behavior.
ii. Explain how you would apply your learning from the contingency leadership models to your area of influence.
- A conclusion that reinforces the main ideas of the paper.
