George Mason University Anonymity of the IP Address Paper

Many people use the web and think that they are anonymous. Information about your DNS, IP address and other data can be retrieved, so you are not anonymous. The Tor browser routes your traffic through a network and your IP reported to any source could be anywhere on the planet. This affords you better anonymous browsing.

Purpose

The Tor browser goes beyond HTTPS to encrypt your traffic, it uses a specially designed network that anonymizes your location and offers better anonymous browsing. In this assignment you will use the Tor browser and compare the IP address you get from default browser.

Directions

  1. Read and execute the instructions for Hands-on Project 2 starting on page 213.
  2. Write a paper describing your experience and project results. Describe challenges you encountered.
  3. Paste the screenshots into your paper. For each screenshot, describe in DETAIL what is taking place.
  4. Save and upload your assignment file here to Canvas.
