This week we will look at Generation M (the contemporary, modern Muslim consumer) and Islamic Marketing.
To prepare for the discussion boards, please carefully read this book chapter, Generation M. It is nontechnical and very engaging. I would encourage you to read it slowly and underline things that you think are important. Our second reading, What the Fatwah, is more focused. Please read the opening two pages, 68-69, and then the section called, “Fun: The Final Frontier, (pp. 82-84). Of course, if you want, you can read the entire chapter, it’s good too.
Then when you are done, please go to the Discussion Board titled, Getting to Know Generation M.
I’ve also made some changes so the Discussion Board settings so that it appears on your Canvas Dashboard. You will see that there is 1 Point assigned. This is a placeholder for Canvas
Part 1. Please listen to this narrated PowerPoint that overviews the Muslim Diaspora and introduces you (briefly) to Islam.
Next, please watch this commercial. It was produced by one of the British TV Channels, Channel 4. Its title is Adnan, which is the Muslim call to prayer. Lean in to the beauty of the Call to Prayer.

Part 2. Now, drawing on the two readings, Generation M and What the Fatwah, collectively create a profile of the of a Generation M women. This is exactly what we did with our El Dulce Negoico case. Remember? Give this women a name, and build a profile of: Her likes, dislikes, values, perceptions of herself. NOTE: You can see that you do not have to post before seeing replies. I’ve done this so that the profile is collectively built. One person does not and should not create the entire profile. It should be a group effort.
Part 3. Lastly, please watch these commercials. All of them are attempts to speak to Generation M. How would you evaluate their effectiveness? Are any more effective than the others? Make your case.
