Regardless of the research method you use (such as qualitative research, quantitative research, an EB quality improvement practice project, etc), you should always try to have the highest quality content-wise as possible by selecting evidence to form your own project that falls into the highest levels of the hierarchy possible. Not only is this finding and using the best evidence and evidence-based changes to perpetuate the quality of practice, but it also looks far more professional and is far more likely to be taken seriously and be respected by others who may down the line opt to select your project as the basis or evidence for their own. The more a project or article is cited, usually indicates the quality of the content and the level of quality work done by the authors. It’s more likely to lead to actual practice changes that could be incorporated into nurses’ (and other professionals’) workflow the world over. The easiest way to describe it I’ve found is when you watch a police/legal drama-haha! The “hearsay” opinion by a witness is never taken seriously, but the actual evidence gathered by the criminal investigation lab (especially DNA or other scientifically gathered/proven evidence) carries far more weight and convinces the jury most often.
