The practicum site demonstrates the distinctive characteristics of public health professional practice in various ways and I am satisfied with all the arrangements. First, the site is highly community focused as its primary goal involves helping the society through promotion of overall health of its residents as well as preventing diseases through patient education and close working relationship with CBOs (Community Based Organizations). In addition, the site has effective population based approach given that it a focus on large groups of people who have comparable health problems or characteristics. Remedies being provided are further based on community needs assessment that is evaluated regularly and improved accordingly and in conjunction with catchment area representatives. The wide determinants of health are addressed to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. Additionally, multiple degrees of practice are taken into account, which includes considering several layers of prevention and basic prevention takes precedence. Having prevention-motivated approach is effective in helping the community avoid the consequences as well as allowing individuals to take more control over their own health (Weed & McKeown, 2018).

The practicum site encompasses a broad variety of environmental and social interventions aimed at improving and protecting people’s health and quality of life by addressing and preventing the underlying causes of illness rather than simply treating and curing symptoms. The practicum site guarantees social justice, equity and access by opening its doors to people from all walks of life. This policy has made the practicum site much popular with the local community within its catchment area. Taking part in all these issues touching of characteristics of public health is indeed a great learning opportunity that budding healthcare professionals need to take advantage throughout their practicum sessions (Chamberlin, 2020).
