Topic: Lesson 2 – Full Range Leadership
Full range leadership considers when a range of leadership styles could be utilized. On one end of the spectrum is laissez-faire or hands-off, then management by exception (passive and active) which is more often thought of as micromanaging, and finally to transactional (rewards based), and ending with a transformational leader.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand when you would use different leadership styles in the full range model and how each of these leadership styles can positively or negatively motivate those you lead.
Two issues for discussion are posed for each lesson. Learners must individually address the issues—initial response—through college-level, succinct and insightful paragraphs.
LESSON 2 ISSUE FOR DISCUSSION #1:
Do you believe a transformational leader is the most effective over the long-term; why or why not?
LESSON 2 ISSUE FOR DISCUSSION #2:
Do you typically rely on one or more of the leadership styles within the full range model? If one, which one do you use and why; if multiple, then when do you use each?
