Can you help me understand this Art question?

You’ve spent the first part of the class looking closely at your masterpiece. Through writing a formal analysis you were able to familiarize yourself will all the visual and design elements of the work of art. By researching and writing about the meaning of your masterpiece you learned the wider meaning of the artwork in the context of the time and culture in which it was created.

Now that you understand the original work it’s time to think about what it would look like if created by an artist today.

Which aspects of the original masterpiece would be changed to reflect today’s society?

You can relate the original masterpiece to anything in the modern world , i would like to compare my masterpiece “the 3rd of may “ to the injustice and killings of black people in the US by law enforcement. George Floyd example is great.

Your reinterpretation shouldn’t be a one for one recreation of the original work, it should have a twist that tells the viewer something about today’s world. That being said you should still leave echoes of the masterpiece piece behind, so it’s not an entirely new work of art.

DIRECTIONS:

Write a two part essay ( at least 500 words total) and turn it into Canvas.

Part 1

Write at least 300 words on the issue or event that you are using as the inspiration for your reinterpretation.

You must use at least 2 scholarly sources for this part of your essay. You should have in text citations (author’s last name and page # if there is one) and list the full source in MLA style at end.

Tell me:

  • the who, what, where, when , and why of the issue or event
  • why does it matter? why should we care about this issue or event?

Part 2

Write at least 200 words describing how your reinterpretation will relate back to the original masterpiece.

Tell me:

  • How did you change or enhance the original meaning of the work with the modern even or issue?
  • Why did you chose the issue or event in relationship to the original work?
    • Is the issue in the original work similar to one today? If so how?
    • Has modern society changed so much that the meaning or context of the original work doesn’t apply to us?
    • Did you think of how modern technology could change the way this art work might be created?
  • Which elements will you leave in your re-interpretation to re-call the original work?

You must use at least 2 scholarly sources for this part of your essay
