Purpose of the Assignment

  • Each group of students must create a POWERPOINT PRESENTATION that compares an aspect of developmental differences across the lifespan
  • This assignment aims at giving students the opportunity to research the nature and nurture debate in developmental psychology
  • Specifically, this assignment will help students gain an insight into the main developmental stages of childhood, adolescence, and adulthood
  • The students’ project will focus on one aspect of developmental differences such as friendship, attachment, nutrition, exercise, memory, cognition, social interaction, family violence, moral development, sibling relationships, grief, or physical abilities.

  • To help students become familiar with the developmental tasks associated with varying life stages
  • To help students critically analyze the influence of heredity and environment upon human development
  • To help students consider development as belonging to either the continuity view or the discontinuity view
  • To help students become familiar with the theories of leading developmental psychologists such as Freud, Piaget, Kohlberg, and Erikson
  • To help students become familiar with recognized psychology journal web sites
