For this week’s individual written assignment, you will use the attached supplied data sets.
- Problem 1: Using the baseball dataset, which provides data on 30 Major League Baseball teams for the 2009 season; use the following variables for the questions below: Number of wins, team salary, season attendance, American or National league designation and number of home runs recorded.
- Which of these variables are quantitative? Which are qualitative?
- Determine the level of measurement for each of the variables.
- Using the Real Estate dataset, select an appropriate class interval and organize the selling prices into a frequency distribution. Then address the following questions:
- Around what values do the data tend to cluster?
- What is the largest selling price? What is the smallest selling price?
- How many homes sold for less than $200K?
- Estimate the percent of homes that sold for more than $220K.
- What percent of homes sold for less than $125K?
- Using the Buena School District bus data. Select the variable referring to the number of miles traveled last month, and then organize this data into a frequency distribution.
- What is the typical amount of miles traveled? What is the range?
- Comment on the shape of the distribution. Are there any outliers in terms of miles driven?
- Draw a cumulative frequency distribution. 40% of the buses were driven fewer than how many miles? How many buses were driven less than 850 miles?
- Refer to the variables regarding the bus type and the number of seats in each bus. Draw a pie chart of each variable and comment on your findings.
