For this essay you will be writing a Comparison or a Contrast Essay. Be sure to read the chapter in your text book (Ch 13) on the comparison essay. Chapter 13 discusses the comparison paper only, but the comparison essay and the contrast essay are set up the same way. One focuses on two topics’ similarities (comparison) and the other on two topics’ differences (contrast). I want you to write either a comparison essay or a contrast essay; do not do both in the same essay. Also, for this essay, no matter which type of essay you choose, you must use the Alternating Pattern discussed on pages 214-5.
The same length and guidelines that applied for the previous essay apply for this one (see Essay Guidelines on our homepage). Choose one of the following topics:
• Two video games or two movies
• A character or family from an old sitcom and one from a current or recent one
• Eco-friendly household and a non-eco-friendly household
• Attending a university and attending a community college
• A child’s relationship with a parent (or parents) versus a young adult’s or an adult’s relationship with a parent (or parents)
• the landscape in fall and the landscape in spring
• Dating in days gone by (80 years ago) to dating today
