ART 344—COURSE PAPER
Objective:
To better understand the background, influences, thinking and methods of one of the following subjects: (1) a past or current graphic designer or graphic design studio, (2) a graphic design sub-discipline, (3) a graphic design movement or stylistic benchmark.
Description:
Write a biography or descriptive paper about one of the following subjects: (1) past or current graphic designer or graphic design studio, (2) graphic design sub-discipline, (3) graphic design movement or stylistic benchmark.
The paper should cover any specific characteristics that make your subject’s work distinguishable from that of others. Include any innovations, breakthroughs and/or discoveries that may be credited to your subject. Be sure to research your subject’s influences as well as those who your subject has influenced. If possible, compare and contrast your subject’s methods and philosophies with those of other related influential subjects.
Procedure/Guidelines:
(1) Choose a subject from the various articles in your textbook.
(2) Research books, periodicals and the Internet to determine that there is enough source material (beyond the information provided in your textbook) to complete a descriptive paper on your subject.
(3) Using Microsoft Word®, follow the formatting palette that was sent as an attachment in a previous email.
(4) Properly introduce your subject and provide any information regarding background, influences, thinking, methods, innovations, breakthroughs and/or discoveries that may be credited to your subject.
(5) Your paper’s word count must be between 900 and 1200.
(6) Spelling and grammar will factor in your grade.
(7) Your paper must include (a) a cover page with a title, your name and the class title, (b) two pages of text, and (c) a bibliography. Including (d) a contact sheet of relevant imagery is optional.
(8) While a hard copy will be required at the deadline, a digital copy must be included in your end-of-semester PDF.
(9) You must have prior approval if you wish to write about a subject that is not listed in your textbook.
Late papers will not be accepted.
Hint:
Remember to provide information beyond that provided in your textbook.
Due to the brevity of your paper, it is strongly suggested that you avoid redundancies and superfluous information, such as lengthy lists of awards.
