For the first stage of this assignment, you will write a short proposal that describes the final project you
would like to complete. This should be 300 to 400 words long, which is equivalent to two full paragraphs.
You can use some of this length to include bulleted lists or an outline if it fits your proposal, but you should
open and close your proposal with a series of full sentences that clearly describe the project.
Your proposal should explain clearly which of the following options for a final project (described below)
you would like to choose and how you plan to go about completing the project. If you are taking option#1
(the academic essay), you should describe the fandom you want to observe, how you are going to
conduct your observations, and what you anticipate your thesis will be. If you are taking option #2(the
creative project), you should describe the project you want to complete, give examples of the kinds of
elements it will include, and discuss how you think the proposed project relates to our course.
You will receive feedback on your proposal before you begin working on your final project itself. This will
help you know that you are approaching the project in an effective way and that your plan matches the
professor’s expectations for a successful final project.
