Florida State University Sports Managements Issues Question

I have selected the Olympics

For this current issue paper, the student will need to research a specific sport management issue of
his/her interest. In the second week of the semester, each student will sign up, deciding which of
the seven broad topics (high school sport, college sport, North American professional team sport,
European professional team sport, professional individual sport, the Olympics, and international
sport) he/she would like to write about. Once the broad topic is determined, the student will have
to narrow it down and focus on one specific issue in relation to this field to delve deeper. For
example, if a student wants to write about an issue in intercollegiate athletics for this assignment,
he/she may decide to specifically focus on college sport’s compliance, commercialization, gender
inequality, etc.

The student may choose to target the issue from any angle he/she likes, but to ensure the quality
of the paper, the student must have a thesis statement that is clearly written in the introduction
section, which should be followed by a brief overview of cases in relation to the issue of the
student’s choice. The thesis statement needs to be supported by two welldeveloped perspectives
or arguments, and to make the arguments persuasive, it will be important for the student to cite
credible sources. Remember that high quality papers will generate new ideas based on existing
information. Therefore, by conducting some research and using the secondary data, the student
should develop his/her own arguments for this paper and provide reasonable suggestions for the
sport’s future development. The paper must contain at least two academic sources and at least five
sources total. The word count for the paper should be between 1,000 and 1,250.
