Topic: Interpersonal competencies in a global setting
Interpersonal competencies refer to the ability to cultivate interpersonal relationships and interact with others socially. This can be done through skills such as active listening, flexibility, empathy, and many others. In some cases, interpersonal competencies are inherent, but in others, these skills can be developed. The skills that encompass interpersonal competency include active listening, empathy, patience, dependability, etc. However, many are not honest about their shortcomings and are not able to effectively build and maintain these relationships. Gathering consistent and honest feedback can help in this situation. One key factor is to develop emotional intelligence- the ability to understand and handle one’s emotions. This is relevant in global and local environments. Without this, interpersonal skills are practically null and void. Improving communication and being committed to a cause are two important factors/ skills to develop. Employees are more likely to follow leaders who are passionate about their work and have a clear idea of what they want to accomplish. Empowering others and managing cultural differences by developing conflict resolution skills are critical in the global environment. Transparency helps to create trust and build effective teams.
