FINAL PROPOSAL
INSTRUCTIONS:
This assignment requires you to develop a final proposal expanded from the previous assignments (literature review, survey design, quantitative design, and qualitative design).
In general, you must explain the context of the problem, review the existing literature, describe your research design (including how quantitative and/or qualitative data will be collected), and discuss the limitations of the study. All citations must be APA style.
The final proposal should be properly formatted. You may use as many pages as you need, however you should be clear and concise! Spelling and grammar count!
The following is an outline of elements to be included in the main body of your report:
The following is a suggested outline of elements to be included.
A. Introduction
o State the research area and the specific research problem(s)
o Review studies that have addressed the problem(s)
o Indicate deficiencies in the studies
o Advance the significance of the study for particular audiences
o State the research question(s).
B. Literature Review:
This section will be the bulk of the proposal. The literature is utilized to
o support your problem statement
o provide reasons why the research is important
o address specifically the research question(s)
o indicate research methods reviewed
o support “theory” being explored
o provide “acceptable” definitions, terms, etc.
o provide opposing views/approaches
If you plan to do a survey study, then your research design section should at least include:
o discussion about the purpose
o identification of the population and sample
o the survey instruments to be used
o the relationship between the variables
o the research questions
o specific items on the survey
o steps to be taken in the analysis and the interpretation of the data from the survey
If you plan to do an experimental study, then your research design section should at least include:
o the participants in the study
o the variables
o the instruments used for pretests and posttest
o the materials to be used in the treatments
o the specific type of experiment
o the illustration of the design
o comments about potential threats to internal and external validity
o the statistical model used to test the hypotheses or research questions
o the interpretation of the results
If you plan to do a qualitative study (narrative, phenomenology, ethnography, case study, or interviewing), then your research design section should at least include:
o discussion of the research design
o the choice of the research design
o the role of the researcher
o setting, actors, events, processes, ethical considerations of the study
o discussion of data collection strategies
o data analysis procedures
o expected outcomes of the study
