Final Exam for ETH 316

 

Exam Instructions:

 

 

The completed exam is due on the last day of class.

 

It is a short essay test.

 

Each question deals with a corresponding week in our class.

 

All students are required to take this test.

 

There is no time limit for this test; you have the entire week to complete it.

 

A 500 word count minimum is required for each week.

 

One reference from the course textbooks is required for each week

 

Turn in the exam to the Assignments Section NLT the last day of class.

 

Remember to post a Certificate of Originality.

 

Week One (3 points)

Ethical Theories Comparison

Theory 1: deontological ethics,

Theory 2: utilitarianism

Theory 3: virtue ethics

 

Choose one of the theories listed above:

·        Create a list of the elements for the selected ethical theory. Your list should also discuss how the theory applies to real-life situations.

·        How do these theories fit into contemporary society? If they do not, explain this.

 

 

 

Week Two (3 points)

Socially Responsible Efforts 

Create a socially responsible effort. The type of organization or person this is for does not matter.

 

Discuss one of the following questions:

·        What influence will the effort have on the community?

·        Would this effort be just as applicable to an organization as it would be to an individual?

·        What considerations did you take into account when making or creating your selection?

 

Week Three (3 points)

Legal, Ethical, or Neither

Discuss one of the following and summarizing your discussion in a mini-essay:

·        Identify a situation that might occur in an organization that is legal, but not ethical.

·        Identify a situation that might occur in an organization that is ethical, but not legal.

·        Would you rather have to make a decision to do something legally right but ethically wrong or legally wrong but ethically right?  Why?

 

Week Four (3 points)

Selecting a Social Initiative 

Use the Virtual Organization, Baderman Island Resort (From City of Kelsey link in Week 2) and develop an idea for potential opportunities for a social initiative for the organization.

 

After doing so, discuss one of the following questions:

§  How might this influence the community?

§  What are the potential ethical effects of this initiative?

§  Would you select the same social initiative if you had a different organization? Why or why not?

 

 Week Five (3 points)

Globalization 

Consider the following brief scenario: You work for a large corporation based in the United States.  The company is opening its first international office located in Beijing, China. 

 

Discuss the potential ethical and social responsibility issues that might arise. Address the following questions:

§  Why might these issues arise?

§  How can an organization that is going global avoid potential problems with conflicting ethical and social responsibility views?
