This film analysis is on the movie “THE PLAYERS CLUB”
This is not a summary of the film but an analysis of the film using sociological concepts that we have discussed and read about throughout the semester.
The paper should be between 5-7 pages in length, typed, double-spaced, and MLA format.
You will need to include at least 4 sources in the paper:
- You can use sources we have used in class or sources that you have found outside of class.
- The Griffiths et al text counts as one source, regardless of how many times you cite it.
- At least three sources must be from peer-reviewed academic journals or texts.
- Use these sources to support your analysis of the film.
- The Works Cited page does not count towards the 5-7 page requirement.
In the introduction of your paper, include a brief synopsis of the film, and describe the main characters, including their character names. 5 points
You must analyze the film using sociological concepts that we have discussed and read about throughout the semester. For the analysis, please answer the following questions:
- Using your sociological imagination, what is your review of this movie? Make sure to review the sociological imagination in the Griffiths et al text when responding to this question. 10 points
- Analyze the film using one of the following theories: structural functionalism, conflict, symbolic interactionism. 15 points
- Select two issues/topics from class: social class, race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, ability/disability, intersectionality. 30 points (15 points each topic)
- How are these issues/topics discussed or displayed in the movie?
- How does the movie help you to understand these topics?
- How does who you are (your social location and biases) affect your viewing of the movie? 10 points
- When watching the movie through a sociological lens, how has the movie changed for you? 10 points
