After reading Chapter 11 “Reproductive Health,” viewing the slide presentation and videos, complete the following steps and create a thread in the discussion board:
- Review Section 11.2 The Fertility Transition (page 259-263) and the charts contained there.
- Choose one of the eight countries being highlighted in the textbook, other than USA. (see chart page 263).
- Go to https://www.populationpyramid.net/ and find the pyramid for the country you chose.
- Using the resources in step 1-3, decide where your chosen country is on the Fertility, Mortality and Demographic Transition Scale (see chart on page 260):
- Pre-transition – high fertility rate, high death rate, stable population size
- Early transition – dealth rates decreasing, population size increases
- Late transition – birth rates decrease, population size increases
- Post-transition – low fertility rate, low death rate, population size stabilizes
- Based on your answer to step 4, answer the following questions:
- What are the implications for maternal/child health in the country you chose?
- What is the most important issue for population planning and reproductive health in that country?
- Comment on at least two other student’s posts, providing feedback and observations about their answers.
