Preface and Instructions:
In the case studies that we have examined, we have looked at various aspects of democracy. We’ve looked at constitutions, expressions of popular will, varying levels of suffrage, democracies created by external forces and internal forces. Clearly, this is a highly complex and multifaceted question, as democracy is inherently tricky to create, hard to implement, and, if history is a judge, quite hard to maintain.
Please answer the following question in an organized, structured essay, with a proper introduction, body, and conclusion:
Based on your interpretations of the case studies which do you think was the “most democratic” and which was the “least democratic”?. First, you will need to decide and explain what you deem to be more or less democratic when it comes to a government. Then you need to explain/defend why you are using those metrics/criteria. Finally, rank the case studies in order from LEAST to MOST democratic, based on the criteria you decided to use. You must use at least 4 of the 6 case studies. Two of them MUST BE China and Iran. For the other two, you need to pick one from Germany and Japan, and then one from France and Rome. While you can use 5 or all 6 case studies, I strongly recommend using 4, so that you can engage more critically with the case studies, delving deeper into the issues that made them more or less democratic.
