The Research Proposal
Goals
To develop dynamic research projects, we need to create great research questions to focus our research collection.
- Review Critical Thinking Chap. 6 & 7 to help you prepare for this assignment
Purpose:
- Develop your skills in thinking about and designing a comprehensive research project on the topic of how society perceives Monsters
- This could focus on media, fiction, or real world situations
- Improve your general research and writing skills.
- Nurture a sense of inquisitiveness within yourself and to help see yourself as an active participant in the process of doing scholarly research.
Task:
Write a 500+ word proposal on what topic you would like to pursue for your research topic.
- This should be in 3rd person
- It should follow MLA formatting
A Proposal should have a section answering each of the following sections:

Intro
- What do I want to study about society and monsters?
- Why is the topic important to society or your peers?

Background
- Write a synthesis paragraph of 3-5 articles that tell us about the topic and what perspectives exist on the topic.

Approach
- Who is your target audience?
- What types of sources/research will you focus on
- What type of medium will you use: paper, presentation, website, etc.

Pitch
- What problems will your research project solve?
- What will it add to the conversation on the topic?
- How does it build upon [and hopefully go beyond] research already conducted on the topic?
