Ethical Dilemma with Entry Dynamics
In this discussion, you will have the opportunity to practice thinking through the process of designing a strategy that involves deceiving your customers, suppliers, investors, etc. You will wrestle with the question of whether deception can be justified as part of a competitive strategy. Is legal deception just part of doing business internationally if it is good for current customers and investors?
For this discussion, review the following scenario:
As part of a feint attack, your firm (firm A) announces that in the next year, it intends to enter country X, where the competitor firm (firm B) is strong. Your firm’s real intention is to march into country Y, where firm B is weak. There is actually no plan to enter country X. However, in the process of trying to “fool” firm B, you are also intentionally misleading your customers, suppliers, investors, and the media.
For your initial post in the discussion forum, review Chapter 11 in the textbook and use your personal judgment to answer the following questions:
- Do you see an ethical dilemma here?
- Do the pros of this action outweigh its cons?
Respond to at least two of your peers. Share whether you agree with their evaluation of the ethical dilemma and explain why.
