Assignment 1 essay proposal: 3 pages single spaced.

You must deal substantively with the topics we have covered in this class, including but not limited to: colonialism, decolonization, race/racism, race and gender, capitalism, revolution, etc. You will be expected to display your knowledge of the readings we’ve done in class and build upon their arguments. Remember that we are assuming that racism is real and that colonialism is an ongoing structure, so arguments that simply claim those things are or are not true will not be accepted. It should be more specific and focused.

The first step you’ll be taking in the writing process is writing a Research Proposal. This research proposal should be 2-3 pages, double-spaced, and MLA formatted. You should provide a tentative research question that is of sufficient scope for the length of this essay, explain your methodology (ie what kind of research will you be doing, how will you find sources, how do you plan on structuring your essay), and establish the intervention you are making in your field of study. An essay proposal does typically have an introduction-like paragraph where the research question is introduced and contextualized, but does not have a conclusion paragraph in the traditional formal sense.

1. Please choose one of the guiding questions from this week, and do your best to respond to it.
2. You should then choose a term that you found interesting OR that you feel you still don’t understand. Do your best to define the term, using quotations from the reading but primarily through your own paraphrasing.
3. End the post by posing a question to your peers.

The initial post should be at least 250 words, .Guidelines for replying to peer posts: This is less structured. You can either respond to a peer’s question, or you can try to help them with the term they chose from the reading.

Guiding Questions Week 7:

1. How does Terrefe structure the argument of her essay? Provide a loose outline. No need to go into great detail—for instance “She summarizes x” is acceptable.
2. Choose two of Lugones’ terms that Terrefe references. How does she problematize or critique that term? Does she offer an alternative understanding or perspective?
3. What is a pornotrope? How does Terrefe say that Lugones reduces Black women to this in her work on decolonial feminism? Be specific.
4. What is a commodity, and how does Terrefe approach this in her argument?
5. What is a libidinal economy?
6. How does Terrefe say Lugones misunderstands intersectionality as a theory and field of study? What is the consequence of this misunderstanding?
