The topic I would like to choose for my term paper is the Black Lives Matter movement, more specifically police brutality against African American men and women in America. This topic is more relevant than ever before, with the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor there’s been outrage by the people for change in America. This is seen with all the protests that are happening today. This topic involves racial inequality because the majority of people who are being killed by the police are black. There is also gender inequality as well because men are being killed at a higher rate. This topic matters to me because it is still happening to this day. Police are killing people who look just like me for no justifiable reasons.They are taking the lives of people with no remorse and doing so without being held accountable for it. We have yet to see justice for the killers of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor. This is an ongoing issue that needs to be resolved.

My only advice is to maintain some focus so that you don’t approach this too broadly, and are able to turn in a well-rounded essay with the limited time we have this summer. From reading your proposal, I can also tell that you care about the solutions – this would be very good to have on your essay.
My advice would be that, in your essay, you present important information that, to your judgement, would represent what everybody should know in order to fix the problem. In the process, you would use this time to start becoming an expert on the topic, and then you condense this expertise down in the term paper. In your conclusions, I would like to see your perspective on how to best approach the problem of police violence (it is completely acceptable if you adhere to someone else’s proposals, but you should be clear about why you think that would be a proper way).
