Polar bears have long since been an icon of global climate change and biodiversity loss. This has been problematic because most people don’t live anywhere near polar bear habitat. Therefore, the polar bear can feel far removed for our own personal reality – thus making biodiversity loss and climate change feel far removed for our lives.

You will notice that National Geographic has put this content behind a subscriber wall, but it is still free to view, you can use any email you wish and un-sub anytime. These are work arounds that sometimes will need to occur in order to not force my students to purchase textbooks since creating high quality content is not free to the creators.
