Description: From the classical arts to modern popular art, our forms of entertainment tend to define, for better or worse, our culture. In addition, to the culture at large, our choices in entertainment tend to define who we are as individuals. Though our forms of entertainment contain many cultural assumptions, what does our individual consumption of entertainment say about our individuality within society? As a culture, do we all experience the same activities in the same way or are there other factors that determine our personal relationship to entertainment? During this project, we will focus on these questions as we explore the relationship of Entertainment to Culture.
For this project you will write an observational report that examines a public form of entertainment that you personally enjoy. From going to the movies, to hiking, or even shopping, the only requirement is that this activity must be one youregularly enjoy. You will begin your observations by examining your own personal connection to this form of entertainment. Once that is established, you will be required over a period of time to make three separate observations on how other people participate in the same form of entertainment. Using your personal experiences and your three observational notes, you will write a report that explores your chosen form of entertainment in terms of personal and cultural differences.
Requirements: Your essay must consist of 1000-1500 words and include the following elements:
Have an interesting title designed to engage a reader’s interest.
A strong thesis that connects your personal experiences and your cultural observations.
A detailed exploration of your own personal behaviors and preferences.
Full observational notes for three separate observations that occur at different times/days.
A thorough report with a full detailed sections indicating: Introduction, Methodology, Results and Discussion.
Written in a clear, academic voice that explores your personal connection to both your chosen form of entertainment and its place within our culture.
