Pontypool has been voted by several movie critics across the world as one of the best zombie movies to come out over the last twenty years, and it’s very unique as well. It covers everything from fears of linguistic and cultural impurity (to take up a term from Asma’s chapter 12) to bigotry and the distinctive, culturally mixed rural culture of Canada. Therefore, I thought it would be a great movie to watch and talk about. Here are the steps to this assignment.

Here are the steps to this assignment.

1*Read over the short handout which lists seven themes/meanings that tend to pop up in zombie films available for this date under ContentReadings (“The Seven Primary Meanings of Zombie Symbolism”). In case you wanted some more in-depth discussion of this handout, I also made a short video where I walk you through it. It’s also under Content–>Readings is called “Video Elaborating on The Seven Primary Meanings of Zombie Symbolism”

2*After looking over the handout (and watching the viddy if you’d like), keep the seven primary meanings of zombie films in mind as you watch Pontypool, which you can find under Content–>Readings as well.

3*After looking over that handout, and watching Pontypool, simply post here about how Pontypool reflects any two of the characteristics listed on the handout that you want to talk about. Remember to respond to a classmate as well.
