ENGL155 Brookdale Community The Reflection of The Society Literary Angle Paper

In this option, you will submit a college-level academic research paper developing a specific literary angle on a story or stories we covered this semester. You can bring in a movie if it is relevant. You should focus on a specific angle as you have be doing all semester in your response journals and other general assignments. You can expand an idea that you already partially developed.

For example:

Early in the semester you were introduced to, Oscar Wilde in the “Happy Prince.” You could develop an angle that talks about Wilde’s hidden homosexuality and how his sexuality influenced his writing. You would find research that talks about how authors are influenced by their own lives and interests and connect that to Wilde in some way.

Another example could be evil in literature such as Arnold Friend as a devil-like character. You would then make a case that Friend is the devil because….

You can talk about a concept, for example – magical realism and show how that appears in several stories.

You can take any way in and develop it. You are limited to your imagination. If you like a specific story, the way it made you feel, the way it made you think – develop that theme into a paper. As I mentioned, you can expand an assignment that you already worked on.

Bottom Line: Produce a four to five page research paper with a properly constructed works cited page in MLA format. You need three to four outside sources that are qualified to use in a college level paper. (No Wikipedia or encyclopedia type sources should be used in college).
