05 | 12 – Versions

Objective: I can analyze multiple interpretations of a story, evaluating how each version interprets the source text.

Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's monster in the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein

One of the most interesting aspects of this story is not even in the story itself. Frankenstein exists in many versions beyond just this story by Mary Shelley. Please answer the following questions.

1. How and why did that happen? (Think about how many times they have relaunched Batman or Spider-Man in film. Why do they keep doing that? Feel free to refer to those kinds of examples in your explanation.)

2. What do you think of when you see the picture on the right?

3. If someone asked you who that was what would you say? Is it even worth trying to set the record straight on the name?
