Can you help me understand this English question?

UIDELINES: By now, we should have a range of opinions, characters, historical and geographic settings, including our own, on work. But our main focus and close reading — is on the industrial world of mid-19th century America — lower Manhattan, in New York City, to be exact, that sets the tone and mood of this elusive text. So it is up to you to claim and own this discussion. At the beginning of this week, we’ll set up a Google Doc, with the professor on the share for feedback, and by the end of the three weeks we’ll (hopefully) have a polished draft. We should: quote and focus on one or two passages, quote and cite a biographical source, with the source cited in a footnote only, and discuss the time period, so dating the work is important. Remember also to close with your own philosophical discussion of preferred and your aspirations for a better work environment. And, of course, to use three literary terms, either from our Freytag Diagram or a glossary of literary terms.

By 10/15: Your two paragraphs on your point of view on work: career choices, ambitions, goals, and how we fit into society, along with any bad work-related encounters that might color those experiences.
