I posed the question asking if Hip-Hop (HH) cinema can be considered a genre. Many of you answered affirmatively and gave reasons why. Now, I’d like to alter that question based on today’s entire class discourse. If HH cinema can be considered a genre, is it sustainable? I ask this because it isn’t a frequent genre & many of its films seem to be biopics. As we, from a societal standpoint, move away from the music videos – who will be its filmmakers? I ask because many of these HH cinema filmmakers lived HH culture while obtaining their education and experience. Who will be the next qualified filmmakers able to maintain the authenticity and validity of this cinematic genre? Must be 1500-2000 words.
