As a business professional, you will sometimes be tasked with writing a tough letter to a customer, former employee, or business associate. This exercise will give you practice in the delicate balance of empathy and persuasion, a difficult task indeed. You will choose ONE of the following exercises from BWS Ch 6(attached below) to revise, keeping in mind that all final submissions should be in letter format (since they are external communications) and make use of white space (paragraph breaks and headings/lists, when necessary). Formats for business letters are covered in BWS Ch 4 (p. 88-89) (which is also attached below).

Choose ONE:

  • 6D: Resolve a complaint about a catering fiasco, p. 141
  • 6F: Revise an angry complaint about a cleaning service, p. 143
  • 6G: Revise a letter that delivers bad news insensitively, p. 144
  • 6I: Write a rejection letter, p. 148
  • 6K: Disinvite participants to a focus group, p. 150
  • 6M: Buy time in a tricky situation, p. 152

Submission
1/2 to 1 page, single-spaced, block style letter. Do use whitespace and headings/lists to group, organize, and signal content. Do not use underline.
