Employment Law Homework

1- A movie company wants to make a movie about Gandhi. As such they need to find a person who will play Gandhi. As such they post in “Career Builder” a job ad that says, ” Lead Actor needed for the upcoming movie Gandhi. Must be a male and must be Indian as well as have 10 years previous acting experience.” Did the movie company break any laws?

2- Class, I was wondering, due to the high unemployment rates Bob who is a certified fitness trainer is looking for a job in his field. He, out of desperation applies to work at a Curves fitness center. He goes in and applies for a position that is available. He is turned away due to fact that he is a male and Curves clientele is women. The reason for being turned away is due to the fact that the management feels that since they only cater to women their customers would not feel comfortable with a man working there. As such has the business violated any rules/law or do they have the right to turn away Bob who is a qualified applicant and would want the job? Elaborate.
