Emoji project, art & design homework help

directions; The word “emoji” means “picture letter” in Japanese. These fun little visuals, often rich in meaning, have re-
cently permeated our digital culture. Emojis are essentially icons, a fundamental tool in visual communication.
Icon design can be a very challenging problem. Icons/emojis must be simple (think about how small they are
on screen) yet convey an idea or implied meaning. Additionally, the design of these small visuals requires an
understanding of the principles of design and Gestalt. The challenge is to distill complex subject matter into a
simpli ed, minimalist visual solution that functions in a variety of environments and at a smaller scale. For this project you will make a statement on a particular social issue using ONLY EMOJIS. You will begin
by THOROUGHLY researching a variety of current social causes. Make sure to dig deep for issues that are
unique and haven’t been over-addressed by the public already. Upon completing the research, begin to brain-
storm three emojis that can best communicate your message. You can choose to rebuild existing emojis or create
your own custom versions.
