Case Study: Natural Disaster Costs

Review the “Facts + Statistics” categories of hurricanes, lightning, hail, and winter storms from the Insurance Information Institute website.

Choose a category of disaster from the above link, then narrow to a detailed event as the result of the disaster. For instance:

Category: lightning fire
Detailed Event: restaurant. +

Write a brief paper on the statistics you’ve discovered on the website for the category you’ve chosen, and design a flowchart or other diagram that shows a “domino effect” of other costs that might be incurred by the disaster. For example the written description might read:

A lightning fire at a restaurant could lead to the business closing, followed by a loss of income for staff, that affects the ability to pay a mortgage or utilities, that cause costs to increase
to other customers, and so on

What would your written description look like if it were turned into a diagram?

Be creative here!

The essay must be a minimum of 1,500 words in length; must pertain to the topic for the particular module; include applicable cites and references; and is written to APA standards that include a cover page, an abstract, discussion with level headings, a conclusion, and references. The paper must be double spaced and use the font New Times Roman and the font size of 12.
