How could better listening skills help you to be a better interpersonal communicator during this pandemic?
…………………………………………………….
– Step two: Make Two Substantive Responses to Two Substantive Posts by classmates.
The first response:
Miscommunication happens every day, even when people are in the best position to receive the information they are getting. In our current state (pandemic), where people are very stressed, worried, scared, and distracted, it is very easy for people to be misunderstood or misinterpreted, given all the negative factors we face in this pandemic. Having better listening skills in this pandemic is very helpful in getting along with people and avoiding unnecessary misunderstandings. With better listening skills, One can exercise patience and know that there is a chance of misunderstanding the person they are communicating with. Just by knowing this, you will always engage in active listening to ensure you receive the message accurately. I also believe that having better listening skills helps reduce some stress off the person you are communicating with by way of actively listening. This limits the chances of the person repeating themselves, which can get really annoying at times.
The second one:
I think during this pandemic most individuals have had a lot to say, many of us have been dealing with numerous issues in this pandemic, and this has brought about a period of time in which many of us don’t have time to listen as we’re too busy talking about our problems, this effect only enhanced because of the initial quarantine we faced in which many of us had no one to talk to. Although to become better interpersonal communicators we must better our listening skills, actively listening to others helps us understand people we’re trying to communicate it enables us to understand their problems, their perspectives and actually helps us talk because at the end of the day this pandemic has forced many of us to have the need to talk to someone and if individuals can better their listening skills they can effectively help everyone because most of us need someone to talk to and so we should be ready to listen to them as well, and through the use of better listening skills, like active listening individuals can help each other through this though time by just listening to their issues, might help reduce their stress.
