1. For the scenario, I chose to play the role of Megan Boyle the researcher’s assistant. I felt that all the answer choices were pretty obvious between which ones were ethical or not. I also felt that a lot of Megan’s communication was not professional or appropriate when speaking to clients. I did feel happy for her when she was standing up to her boss who was speaking to her in a derogatory tone most of the time. She could have been more professional and show a lot more attention and patience when speaking to clients or others. I would have also confronted my coworker who was inputting data while also watching television. When the boss was implying that I make up the data, I would have clarified with him and spoke to an HR representative on how to approach the situation and ask what to do in my position. I learned how easily some ethical decisions can be overlooked, especially when you have many factors against you but it is important to make sure that we maintain the integrity of the research.

2. In the simulation activity, the character that I played was nurse Argine. Nurse Argine was stressed and overwhelmed throughout the simulation. My character tried to take control as much as she can during the simulation and working with her coworkers. I liked that my character had great communication skills with her coworkers and was a great team player. What I did not like about my character was that she did not speak to her supervisor directly about her concerns and stress about the situation. I think the nurse should have talked to her team and supervisor in the beginning about her being nervous. Teamwork is essential in patient care and one of the most important roles to provide the best treatment needed. Leadership is another important component within the healthcare because it helps direct and improve an organization. Nurses play a major role in providing strong ethical principles to follow to give patients the best treatment. Also, in the research I learned that the use of ethical principles mainly focus on the minimizing the risk of harm.
