1. In what ways is EBP applied where you work or where you do clinicals?

  • Evidence-based practice (EBP) provides nurses with a method to use critically appraised and scientifically proven evidence for delivering quality health care to a specific population(Majid et al., 2011). EBP marks a shift among health care professionals from a traditional emphasis on authoritative opinions to an emphasis on data extracted from prior research and studies. I am placed in the pre and post op unit at my clinical. Nursing practice is essential for providing quality care to patients. Adopting EBP improves patient outcomes and patient, family, and healthcare provider satisfaction while taking their culture into account. With these precautions in place, the risk of harm by decreasing unnecessary tests and procedures will benefit our patients (Majid et al., 2011).

  • Palmdale Regional earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Palmdale Regional has received the American Heart Association®/American Stroke Association’s® 2019 Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment (Palmdale Regional Receives 2019 Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, 2019).

Evidence-based practice has been applied in so many ways in clinical settings as well as work settings. With evidence-based practice, it helps with the nursing process as well as making decisions that can impact patient care based on evidence from research, professional nursing and as well as the patient’s preferences. This is used to achieve the best patient outcomes. In the United States, many organizations, governments, regulators, and patients are calling for health care providers to practice using evidence (Hopp, 2021).Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a global goal for improving outcomes and treatment quality (Liu, 2021). An example of how I have applied EBP is repositioning a patient every two hours. According to studies, evidence suggests that turning patients frequently can assist to reduce the occurrence of pressure ulcers. Another example is a clinical setting would be, as nurses play an important role in helping to prevent sickness from occurring by following evidence-based infection-control measures. This includes keeping the healthcare environment clean, wearing personal protective equipment, taking efforts to avoid cross-contamination, and washing hands properly.

One initiative study I found had its purpose in comparing and contrasting oncology nurse attitudes and perceived EBP implementation, as well as comparing and contrast beliefs and implementation before and after an institutional EBP program is implemented. Findings included a history of formal EBP education and nurse role were associated with higher EBP-B and EBP-I scores (Underhill, 2015).
