When working within the education field, it is required to effectively communicate with parents and all members of the school community. Many times, you are not allotted the time necessary to have face-to-face interactions. Therefore, utilizing written communication tools is necessary. Developing a resource guide allows educators to explain to stakeholders how cultural values and community background are celebrated and supported within the classroom.
Create a newsletter or brochure for your students’ parents or school community to explain how cultural values and community background are supported and celebrated in the classroom.
Include the following:
- Three examples of funds of knowledge and cultural values
- How funds of knowledge and cultural values intersect
- Cultural values and community backgrounds within your professional context
- Effects cultural values and community background have on learning
- Examples of how funds of knowledge affect classroom instruction
- How a Christian perspective might affect funds of knowledge in a school environment
