You are the director of a child care center. You have been observing in the preschool classrooms and are very concerned about some of the things you see–chaotic transitions, with children waiting in line for long periods of time for handwashing or to go outside, mostly teacher led group activities with less than 25 minutes of free play per day, and teachers interacting with children negatively or not at all. Reflecting back on your own training and education in Early Childhood Education, you decide to meet with your staff to assist them in understanding your expectations in the classroom and aligning these with best practices from the ECERS-3 scale under Program Structure. Develop a handout that outlines what you need to see in the classroom (not what needs to stop) and provide ways you will be mentoring and coaching your teachers. This would be a handout you would provide to teachers in your meeting to help them understand your goals for excellence in your program.
